STEP 1 Secure the shaft in a vice near the tip of the grip using a protective rubber vice clamp. Position the club face perpendicular to the floor in the playing position. Be sure to set the leading edge of the clubface pointing vertical in the vice.

STEP 2 Remove the old grip with a straight blade or stripper. (Use a utility knife with a hook blade on graphite shafts to avoid damage to the shaft.) Be sure to cut away from yourself at all times. Peel or scrape off the old grip and grip tape. Using a cloth and Mineral Spirits Grip Solvent, clean off the residue.

STEP 3 Hold the new grip parallel to the shaft to determine how much area needs to be covered by the tape (pre-cut strips require no measurement). Place the pre-cut strip flat and wrap around the shaft taking care not to crease the tape.  Ensure the tape overlaps the end of the shaft and fold over to avoid any dirt going into the shaft. This also allows the grip to slide over the shaft more easily.

STEP 4 Apply build-up tape on the shaft if an oversize grip is desired (no required if you have purchased a midsize grip). Otherwise, use either 3/4" or 2" double-sided grip tape. If 3/4" tape is used, wrap in a spiral formation from the top of the shaft to the point where the bottom of the grip will be on the shaft. Remove the tape backing and cover the end of the shaft with extra tape. Pre Cut tape strips are easier to work with than rolls of tape.

STEP 5 Cover the vent hole in the butt end of the grip with your finger or golf tee, and pour or spray a generous portion of Grip Solvent inside the new grip ensuring complete coverage. (We also sell the grip solvent in 4/8/32oz bottles if required). Close the open end of the grip with your fingers and shake to cover the entire inside of the grip.

STEP 6 Pour the excess Grip Solvent (through the vent hole) over the entire length of the two-sided tape ensuring you have no sticky uncovered dry tape. Apply generously. Use a tray to catch excess Grip Solvent for use on other clubs.

STEP 7 Place the end of the grip over the shaft butt (with the alignment name / pattern upwards) onto the club by squeezing the open end of the grip ensuring the name is at a right angle to the leading edge of the club.  This must be done while the grip tape is still wet with Grip Solvent. Don’t panic you will have a minute to make minor adjustments to the grip alignment.  Push the grip entirely onto the club. Be sure the grip butt is against the shaft butt and the end of the grip can’t be bent or folded to one side.

STEP 8 The grip can now be properly aligned with the pattern/name square to the club face. (This must happen within a minute or so after applying the grip.)  Please note you can carry out this task as we do without the use of a vice by placing the head of the club up against a wall with the clubface in the playing position when sliding the grip on. If you are not using a vice when removing the old grip be extra careful that you always cut away from yourself when using a sharp knife or our recommended grip removal tool.

STEP 9 Allow grips to dry several hours before playing. Our solvent dries very quickly and is ready for use in two hours.
